About the Role
This position focuses on providing inpatient rehabilitation to adults with complex and enduring mental health conditions. The Horton Rehabilitation Service comprises three units: two High Dependency Units and The Cottages, which offers open/community rehabilitation. As an integral member of the multidisciplinary team, you’ll collaborate with medical staff, nurses, activity coordinators, peer support workers, fitness instructors, employment specialists, psychologists, and arts psychotherapists to deliver comprehensive care.
Key Responsibilities
- Assessment and Intervention: Conduct thorough assessments to identify barriers to discharge and develop individualized intervention plans to enhance patients’ daily functioning.
- Therapeutic Activities: Develop, facilitate, and evaluate therapeutic groups and individual interventions as part of the ward’s multidisciplinary program.
- Discharge Planning: Prescribe equipment, recommend future accommodations or care packages, and ensure patients receive the appropriate level of support upon discharge.
- Recovery and Wellbeing: Participate in the CNWL Recovery and Wellbeing College by facilitating inpatient courses, collaborating with colleagues and peer trainers to deliver onsite programs.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
- Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy.
- Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
- Undergraduate experience in mental health settings.
- Proficiency in using standardized OT assessments, such as the Model of Human Occupation (MOHO).
- Experience working within multidisciplinary teams and diverse cultural environments.
- Group facilitation skills.
Desirable:
- Postgraduate training specific to clinical specialties.
- Completion of a Practice Placement Educator’s Course.
- Experience as a qualified OT in mental health settings.
- Familiarity with service users with enduring mental health conditions.
- Personal experience with mental health services, either personally or as a supporter.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong individual and group assessment and intervention skills.
- Clear understanding of Occupational Therapy concepts and models of practice.
- Ability to assess physical needs, prescribe equipment, and make informed recommendations.
- Excellent communication skills across various disciplines, including written, verbal, and IT proficiency.
